Six degrees of separation refers to the idea that, if a person is one step away from each person they know and two steps away from each person who is known by one of the people they know, then everyone is an average of six steps away from each person on Earth.
The degree of separation from East Carolina is much closer for West Virginia wide receivers coach Lonnie Galloway, a member of East Carolina’s coaching staff in 2003-04. He got a first-hand look at the passion Pirate fans have for their football program.
“I was there in ’03-’04 and they consider this a big game for them,” Galloway said. “It will be charged up down there in Greenville. Their fans are like West Virginia’s fans. They’re crazy. They love Pirate football and they feel like they are outcasts down there with the Big Four schools Duke, North Carolina, North Carolina State and Wake Forest.”
Galloway is still familiar with many of the Pirate players.
“I know some of their players down there still because I recruited some of those guys. It will be a huge game for them,” Galloway said.
Senior wide receiver Dorrell Jalloh is also familiar with the Pirate program having grown up in Charlotte.
“I’m going to be excited. I’m from North Carolina and my family is from there. I’m going to have a lot of my family there," Jalloh said. "That’s my home. This team (East Carolina) is coming to play. They’re ready. They’ve been watching our film from last year and I’m sure they’ve got us marked on their schedule. We need to go out there and be ready.”
