Volleyball: Mountaineers to Begin BIG EAST Play

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University volleyball team will begin BIG EAST play this weekend with a 2 p.m. match against Seton Hall on Saturday, Sept. 27, and a 2 p.m. match against Villanova on Sunday, Sept. 28.
The Mountaineers own a 5-6 record after taking first place and going undefeated in the WVU Classic this past weekend.
Freshman setter Kari Post led the Mountaineers as she was named tournament MVP. Post recorded 115 assists and 48 digs along with three double-doubles in her first weekend starting for the Mountaineers.
The Pirates are now 5-8 on the season after falling to Penn State last weekend. Junior Allie Matters reached 1,000 career digs after she posted 21 in the loss. She is the sixth player in school history to reach the milestone.
The Wildcats moved to 8-5, as they defeated Penn State at the Villanova Classic this past weekend. Freshman Kim Maroon was named MVP of the tournament as she posted a career-high 21 digs and averaged a total of 6.22 per set.
As a team the Mountaineers are listed sixth in the conference for most team digs with 661, while sophomore libero Bonnie West is currently ranked fifth with 195 digs on the season.
