Bill Stewart said in the preseason that Jock Sanders was going to get his hands on the football. He didn’t lie. In last weekend’s game against Villanova Sanders touched the football a total of 12 times on passes, runs and kickoff returns. In all, Sanders accounted for 144 all-purpose yards against the Wildcats.
“Jock Sanders had a banner day,” Stewart said Tuesday afternoon. “I know he had eight, nine catches (eight actually). We need to get the ball in his hands as often as we can.”
Stewart knew what a weapon Sanders could be back during his high school days at St. Petersburg Catholic High School.
“I will show you his high school film – a tremendous talent at quarterback,” Stewart said. “He has great ball skills catching the ball, great running routes – very deceptive running routes; he uses his speed well and finds the hole well.
“That catch in front of the Villanova cheering section I thought was one of the best catches and throws I’ve ever seen,” Stewart said. “Jock Sanders is really hitting on all cylinders right now and we need him to be hitting like that every week.”
