MORGANTOWN, W.Va.- Player quotes after Tuesday afternoon's practice.
Sophomore Safety Sidney Glover
On the comparison between Eric Wicks and himself
I can see the comparison. I can be the physical guy making plays, and be the big playmaker, but I don’t want to put the pressure on myself to have to be like Eric Wicks.
On putting himself in the position to be a starter
I don’t think I’m a starter yet, but I’ve been working hard. I’m trying to make myself a better player. Some days when I go home, I feel like I could have worked a little harder that day.
On playing under two different coaching staffs
You learn different styles of coaching. Coach Dunlap has a different style of coaching then Coach Tall. It’s all the same, because they all want you to work hard. It’s just a different style of coaching, and you just have to adjust to the different styles of coaching. Coach Dunlap is more energetic than Coach Tall.
On the team coming together
We all work together and help each other. The coaches rotate us so we all get a chance to work together, even though it’s a competition (for positions), we still are a unit.
Senior Quarterback Pat White
On the season being two weeks away
I wish I was playing today or tomorrow. I want to play as soon as possible.
Two-deep and potential on nine freshmen being on the offensive two-deep
It’s definitely the most since I’ve been here. I guess they did a great job of recruiting and bringing guys in, and getting them ready.
In contrast, there are three freshmen on defense:
They are still young on that side. When we come in the middle to shake hands, I don’t see many seniors over there. But they are talented with a great coach.
On the revised offense
I think we have it down pretty well. We’ve been studying, and the coaches have taught us a lot of good things. I’m comfortable passing the ball.
On the Heisman hype
If there is more, I haven’t paid any attention to it. I’ve visited a few more places because of it. I think there is more attention on us, because of what happened in the past and what is happening now than me.
On the absence of a backup running back
We need depth, definitely. Noel is a great back, and we have a few other backs that are doing well, they just have to step up a little more. They have to put a little more time in the film room, but we’ll be ok.
Freshman Tight End Tyler Urban
On his work so far
I will play more of a tight end. It’s a new position that I have to learn, but I like it. I’m not playing too much at the fullback position. I’m mostly all tight end right now. I still have a lot of things to work on. I wasn’t expecting to come in like I did and make some type of impact. I still have a lot of stuff to work on. It’s an exciting process.
On the differences between he and Will Johnson
We’re two completely different types of tight ends. He’ll play in the backfield and will play that position more often. We’re two different body types. I’m a little bigger, and he’s a little quicker so when we’re playing together, we fit pretty well. I’m more of the blocking tight end. I’m still learning the offense but right now I’m a blocking tight end.
On the possibility of redshirting
The coaches have not mentioned anything.
Freshman Safety Robert Sands
On the difference between college and high school
The speed. It’s all just the speed. Coach Dunlap is taking it slow with me so I can really learn the position. Sometimes I think too much when I should just be reacting. The instinct thing will come with a lot of reps. I am trying to get comfortable, and I’m working with both the No. 1’s and No. 2’s.
On the possibility of playing his freshman year
I knew they lost players at safety and to get the opportunity to come in and perhaps get the opportunity to start, it’s amazing. My whole mindset that I would get redshirted and have a year to work, before I was ready next year, it’s amazing to me.
On the coaching staff
My coaches know I work hard and love the game. I love making open-field tackles and the coaches know what I can do so they stay on me and keep me going.
