MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Former West Virginia University track and cross country standout Megan Metcalfe will compete in the semi-finals of the women’s 5000 meter event at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China, Aug. 19, at 7:35 p.m. Beijing time.
The semifinal, which will take place at 7:35 a.m. ET, will most likely air on NBC between 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on tape-delay on Tuesday. The final, to take place at 8:40 a.m. ET, on Aug. 22, will air in the Olympic recap on NBC between 8 p.m. and midnight. The race should also be available to watch on www.nbcolympics.com 24 hours after the race has ended.
A native of Edmonton, Alberta, Metcalfe will represent Canada and will hope to advance to the finals. The finals of the event will be held on August 22, at 8:40 p.m. local Beijing time.
Metcalfe was a nine-time All-American at WVU in both cross country and track and is one of four athletes with WVU ties competing at the 2008 Summer Olympics, joining rifle coach Jon Hammond, shooter Mike Anti and former pitcher Jeremy Cummings
