MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - WVU sophomore distance runner Keri Bland won the first heat and placed second overall in the preliminaries of the 1,500m today at Mike Long Track in Tallahassee, Fla.
The Fairview, W.Va., native's time of 4:21.63 was just .04 behind Florida State junior Heather England (4:21.59), who won the second of three heats.
True freshman Kaylyn Christopher, a native of Kingwood, W.Va., finished 27th overall in the 1,500m with a time of 4:33.31
Clara Grandt placed eighth in the 5,000m run with a time of 16:35.83. By placing eighth in the final, Grandt recorded one team point for WVU to tie the Mountaineers with Boston, UConn and Winthrop at 23rd.
True freshman Chelsea Carrier's magnificent season that included an ECAC indoor hurdle title and BIG EAST outdoor 100m hurdle individual championship came to a close Friday afternoon.
The Buckhannon, W.Va., native finished second in the fourth heat, but 10th overall (13.78) in the 100-meter hurdle prelims. The eighth and last qualifying spot for the hurdle finals was taken by North Carolina's Vaniesha Ivy at 13.59.
Besides Bland, Katelyn Williams competes in the high jump Saturday at 1 p.m. and Alison Spiker will race in the steeplechase Saturday at 6:15 p.m.
