MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University track & field team will compete at the 2008 ECAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships at William Weaver Track & Field Stadium in Princeton, N.J., on May 16-18. Action starts at 2 p.m., Friday with the heptathlon.
“We are hoping to better our national rankings for a few of our athletes this weekend,” Head Coach Sean Cleary said. “And for those who haven’t qualified yet, this is their last chance to make NCAA Regionals.”
Alexandra Acker and Kristen Loughry will be eyeing the NCAA regional mark to qualify in the pole vault. Karly Hamric will attempt to post a regional mark in the 800m, while Natasha Redman will do so in the high jump.
Several Mountaineers have already locked up spots at the NCAA Regional held May 30-31. Freshman Kaylyn Christopher is looking to gain experience in the 1,500m going into the regional meet, while sophomore Keri Bland already ranks among the top 30 nationally in the 800m and 1,500m. Freshman Katelyn Williams is ranked 26th in the country and seventh in the East Region in the high jump.
BIG EAST champion Chelsea Carrier sits 29th in the 100m-hurdle national rankings and Alison Spiker will be looking to move into the top 30 in the steeplechase.
Carrier and Clara Grandt are specifically looking to qualify for nationals in the heptathlon and 10,000m, respectively, this weekend since those events do not take place at regional meets.
