MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomore Mo Travis scored a goal from the left flank in the second half of West Virginia’s spring season opener as the Mountaineers fell 2-1 to the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, tonight, at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
The Riverhounds, the men’s professional team from the steel city, led by one at halftime and added an insurance goal ten minutes into the second half to gain a 2-0 lead.
Around the 75th minute mark, Travis, a Creighton University transfer, received the ball from Tony Lindroos on the left side, and shot a slider into the near post past the Pittsburgh goalkeeper, to put WVU on the board and produce the final margin.
“We set the spring up to challenge these guys and playing a professional team certainly does that,” commented Head Coach Marlon LeBlanc. “We played everyone tonight; these guys are playing for their positions.”
The Mountaineers will close their home spring schedule when the squad entertains American University on Thursday, April 10, at 7 p.m.
