MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Despite an early 1-0 lead, the West Virginia women’s soccer team fell to Ohio State, 2-1, Sunday afternoon in Columbus, Ohio, at the Buckeyes’ practice field.
The Mountaineers took a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute on a goal from sophomore midfielder Carolyn Blank. Blank intercepted ball in the midfield and beat two OSU defenders before firing a shot from 25 yards out.
The Buckeyes answered nearly 10 minutes later off a set piece. Ohio State sent a direct kick into the box where a Buckeye headed the ball into the back of the net.
Tied 1-1 at the half, Ohio State netted the game-winner with roughly 12 minutes remaining in the 90-minute match. The Buckeyes converted on a cross from the right flank to make it 2-1.
West Virginia’s spring booking concludes with a match against Maryland on April 25 in College Park, Md.
