Rifle: Santelli and Lamson Completes Three Events

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia shooters Tommy Santelli and Andrew Lamson both finished in the top 10 of the third and final event, three-position smallbore, to close the 2008 National Junior Olympic Championships in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Santelli placed fifth overall after shooting a score of 1148 in day one and 1137 in day two to finish with a total score of 1172, and advance to the finals. The Prosperity, Pa., native shot a 93.3 in the finals to place fifth overall with a total of 2378.3
Lamson shot a score of 1143 in day one of the competition followed by a score of 1140 in day two action. The Colchester, Vt., native finished in seventh place with a total score of 2377.1, after he shot a 94.1 in the final round.
Santelli and Lamson finished 17th and 20th, respectively, in the smallbore prone event, and finished sixth and 11th, respectively, in the air rifle event held earlier this week.
Santelli and Lamson are the second and third Mountaineers to compete at the Junior Olympics this season. Fellow freshman Brandi Eskew placed third in the air rifle competition and fourth place in the smallbore competition on April 9.
Santelli was named to the National Rifle Association All-America second team, while Lamson earned honorable mention honors after the West Virginia rifle team took sixth at the 2008 NCAA Championships on March 18.
