MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University Director of Athletics Ed Pastilong announced today that Niles Eggleston has been named interim director of the Mountaineer Athletic Club.
Eggleston came to West Virginia in October 2006 as director of development for athletics and was promoted to senior director of development for athletics in August 2007. During his 18 months in Morgantown, Eggleston has worked with all facets of the Mountaineer Athletic Club, including major gifts, the annual fund and premium seating. As interim director of the MAC, Eggleston will fill the lead fundraising role vacated by Larry Aschebrook, who left WVU to take an athletic development position at Arizona State.
“We are gearing up for the focal point of our fundraising season, and it is important to have someone in place to lead the MAC through this busy time,” Pastilong says. “Niles has been with us and is heavily involved in our fundraising strategies. His background at James Madison, Miami and WVU will enable him to oversee the Mountaineer Athletic Club successfully during this transition period until a new assistant athletic director for development is named.”
Before his tenure at West Virginia, Eggleston was the associate vice president for major gifts at Elmira (N.Y.) College. Prior to Elmira, he was assistant athletic director for development at James Madison, focusing on major gifts to capital projects, endowments and major annual donations. He was part of a $10 million Building for Success Campaign to raise funds for JMU’S Athletic Performance Center.
Eggleston, a native of Oneonta, N.Y., also served as director of the Hurricane Club at Miami, overseeing the annual fund for athletics. He received his bachelor’s degree from Colorado in 1998 and a master’s degree from North Carolina State, where he served as a graduate assistant with the Wolfpack Club.
Eggleston and his wife Meghan, reside in Morgantown and have a son, Bowman.
