Rifle: Santelli and Lamson Compete at Jr. Olympics

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia freshmen shooters Tommy Santelli and Andrew Lamson finished sixth and 11th, respectively, at the 2008 National Junior Olympic Championships, in the air rifle event, in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Santelli finished in sixth place after shooting a score of 583 in day one and 581 in day two to advance to the finals with a score of 1164. The Prosperity, Pa., native then went on to shoot 101.8 out of 109 for his sixth-place finish.
Lamson shot a score of 574 in day one of the competition followed by a score of 586 in day two action. The Colchester, Vt., native finished in 11th place with a score of 1160.
The two will also compete today in the smallbore event. The top eight finishers will advance to the finals to be held tomorrow night.
Santelli and Lamson are the second and third Mountaineers to compete at the Junior Olympics this season. Fellow freshman Brandi Eskew placed third in the air rifle competition and fourth place in the smallbore competition on April 9.
Santelli was named to the National Rifle Association All-America second team, while Lamson earned honorable mention honors after the West Virginia rifle team took sixth at the 2008 NCAA Championships on March 18.
