MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Freshman Chelsea Carrier finished third in the 100-meter hurdles and 10th in the 100-meter dash to highlight West Virginia’s individual performances at the Raleigh Relays this weekend.
The Buckhannon, W.Va., native ran a 13.78 in the preliminaries of the hurdles before running a 14.08 in the finals. Carrier’s 100 time in the finals was 12.41, after her 12.01 preliminary mark.
WVU’s 4x1,500-meter relay team ran to a second-place finish behind Virginia Tech with a time of 18:29.05. The Hokies crossed in 18:17.40. The West Virginia 4x100 relay squad placed ninth with a time of 48.48.
Mountaineer freshman distance runner Kaylyn Christopher turned in a top performance in the 1,500-meter run. Christopher placed third with a time of 4:34.88, just three seconds off the race champion.
Jamie Cokeley finished ninth in the third division of the 5,000-meter run, finishing in 19:21.22. WVU freshman Kelly Fortune finished 34th in the 100-meter dash at 12.48. Jordann Mitchell was the top Mountaineer runner in the 400 meters as she crossed in 59.76 for 48th place.
In the field events, freshman Katelyn Williams earned a fourth-place finish in the high jump at a height of 1.70 meters., Alexandra Acker cleared 3.20 meters in the pole vault for fifth place and senior Alexis Noel was ninth in the long jump at 5.59 meters.
Erica Reib finished 14th in the triple jump (10.36m) and Rachael Goodman threw the javelin 29.03 meters for 19th place to round out top Mountaineer performances.
WVU returns to action at the Stanford Invitational on April 4-5.
