Baseball: Gyorko Earns BIG EAST Honor

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Freshman second baseman Jedd Gyorko has been named to the BIG EAST weekly honor roll as announced by the league office this afternoon. West Virginia went 3-1 this past weekend in Myrtle Beach at the annual Baseball at the Beach Tournament.
The Morgantown, W.Va., native, went 10-16 posting a .625 batting average this weekend. Gyorko registered five RBI, two runs, two doubles and .750 slugging percentage. The rookie has started in all eight games this season.
WVU defeated Western Carolina, 8-7, on Friday, Feb. 29, before downing in-state rival Marshall, 5-3, in game one on Saturday, March 1. The Mountaineers faced No. 26 Coastal Carolina, the tournament host, but fell 8-3 in game two. On Sunday, WVU defeated George Mason, 4-1, to close the weekend.
The Mountaineers face Duquesne in its home opener on Tuesday, March 4, at Hawley Field. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
