MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University Men’s Soccer Coach Marlon LeBlanc today announced the 2008 spring soccer schedule.
“We’ve got a young group that needs some playing experience,” says LeBlanc. “This will challenge them with a tough schedule and we’ll throw them to the fire right away.
“We’re battling a lot of injuries right now and we graduated seven seniors from last season. Knowing these guys are going to play a lot will help us in the future and it’s a good opportunity for some of them who don’t play a lot to earn a spot for the fall.
“And the good thing in the spring is that results don’t mean anything. It’s all about the development of the players.”
West Virginia opens spring action on Saturday, April 5, at 7:30 p.m., against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds at Dick Dlesk Stadium in Morgantown. The squad entertains American on Thursday, April 10, at 7 p.m., in its last spring home game.
WVU closes its spring schedule with road games at Real Maryland FC, April 12; at IUPUI, April 19; and at Marshall in Charleston, W.Va., April 26.
The Mountaineers finished the 2007 season with a 14-6-2 record, advanced to the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST tournament and reached the NCAA Sweet 16. The Mountaineers were ranked No. 13 in the final NSCAA/adidas poll.
