Track: Asselin Places Seventh at NCAAs

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University redshirt freshman Marie-Louise Asselin took seventh place with a time of 9:14.44 in the 3,000-meter run on Saturday night at the 2008 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Fayetteville, Ark.
By finishing in the top eight, The Sarnia, Ontario, Canada, native is awarded All-America status and was the only freshman to do so.
On March 14, the distance medley relay squad took fourth place with a time of 11:07.64 to break a school record and give WVU five team points. The previous school record was set in 2003 at 11:11.98.
The Mountaineers finished tied for 29th with eight points.
“The next few years will be very exciting for this group,” Head Coach Sean Cleary says. “Our team will keep working hard to continue to reach the top.”
WVU opens the outdoor track season on March 28-29, at the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C.
