MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University men’s soccer coach Marlon LeBlanc has added Mo Travis, Justin Turnley and Kyle West to the Mountaineer men’s soccer team.
Travis, a native of Papillion, Neb., comes to West Virginia from Creighton, where he played in 19 games as a sophomore, starting five contests and scoring three goals. As a freshman, Travis played in 18 games and scored three goals. He was a member of the Nebraska Olympic Development Program (ODP) team and earned all-conference honors at Papillion-La Vista High. Travis played club soccer for UFC Real, helping them to state championships from 2003-05.
“Mo Travis comes to us with great experience from a Top 10 program in Creighton University,” says LeBlanc. “He’ll bring speed and he will be a scoring threat to our attack for the next two years.”
Turnley, a native of Beaver, Pa., comes to WVU from Robert Morris, where he started 13 games as a freshman for the Colonials. While at Beaver High, Turnley was the WPIAL Sectional Player of the Year in 2006 and was a four-year selection to the all-WPIAL team. He led Beaver High to the WPIAL championship game in 2006 and scored 23 goals with 11 assists for the season. Turnley also played club soccer for Century United.
“Justin was a starting center back at Robert Morris,” says LeBlanc. “We’ll look to use him as a left back in our system. He’s a naturally left-footed player with good speed and has a year of Division I experience.”
A native of Omaha, Neb., West joins the Mountaineer roster after spending the previous two seasons at Ohio State. As a Buckeye, West competed in four games in 2007 and 10 games in 2006. He was a Nebraska Olympic Development Program (ODP) selection and was a Region II team member. Playing club soccer for UFC Real, West helped lead the team to state championships from 2003-05. He also earned Nebraska all-state honors at Millard South High.
“Kyle comes to us from national finalist Ohio State,” says LeBlanc. “He spent two years as a reserve right back with the Buckeyes. We look forward to him getting a fresh start as a center back in our system.”
All three student-athletes are enrolled at WVU for the spring semester. LeBlanc will announce his complete 2008 recruiting class later this week.
