MORGANTOWN, W.Va.- Senior Jared Villers defeated his Pitt opponent Dave Crowell on Feb. 8, when he scored an important technical fall to put WVU in a key position to win, only to lose in the final bout in the heavyweight division. The Mountaineers fell to Pitt 18-17.
His technical fall on Friday was his second straight, scoring another against Lock Haven on Sunday, Feb. 3. This season he leads the Mountaineers with 14 wins and continues to stay undefeated in dual meets (10-0) and EWL matches (4-0).
Villers is ranked No. 12 in the country in the latest InterMat/NWCA poll, and finished 4th in the prestigious Cliff Keen Invitational earlier this season.

The West Virginia University wrestling team heads into non-conference action with their 46th meeting against Ohio on Friday, Feb. 15, at 8 p.m. at Athens, Ohio.

On the men’s side senior Kevin Donohue broke a natatorium record in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:01.15, defeating the prior record of 2:04.51, while senior Nick Delic captured a record in the 100 Fly with a time of 48.41, the previous record was 49.10 ... junior Michael Walker also recorded a natatorium record, with a time of 1:51.33 in the 200 IM, breaking the former record of 1:51.49.

WVU had one event champion at the Virginia Tech Elite meet on Feb. 8-9, at Rector Field House in Blacksburg, Va. … Maggie Smith won her group in the pole vault as she cleared 3.60 meters … that mark qualified her for the ECAC Championships … in pole vault, Kristen Loughry tied for third after clearing a career-best 3.80 meters … Keri Bland just barely finished second in the elite group of the 1-mile run at 4:51.72 … Bland was edged out by Wake Forest’s Nicole Schappert who crossed in at 4:51.04 … WVU freshman Chelsea Carrier qualified for the finals in the 60-meter hurdles and finished in 8.68 seconds for sixth place … April Rotilio ran the 200 meters in 24.79 for 10th place and took ninth in the 400-meters at 55.54 seconds to post two ECAC qualifying times … Alexis Noel turned in a long jump of 5.84m to place fourth and qualify for BIG EAST and ECAC Championships … in separate division of the 400-meter dash, Jordann Mitchell took 13th with a time of 59.56 … Karly Hamric ran well in the 800-meter run to take eighth place in 2:13.37, a BIG EAST qualifying time … Hamric finished just six seconds behind race champion Phoebe Wright of Tennessee.
