MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University swimming and diving teams will leave Tuesday, Dec. 30, to take part in a 11-day winter break training trip. The Mountaineers will spend Dec. 30 to Jan. 9 in Tucson, Ariz., training with defending men’s and women’s NCAA Champion Arizona.
“As the team enters the second half of our season we are looking forward to spending some time in Tucson with the best teams in the nation,” says Coach Vic Riggs. “I’m looking forward to both the team and the staff learning a great deal from this opportunity and want to thank Frank (Busch) and Arizona for allowing us to come. I know we will come back with some new ideas that will help us at the BIG EAST Championships and NCAA’s.”
West Virginia heads west coming off a successful trip to the Georgia Invitational from Dec. 5-7. At the invite, both the men’s and women’s teams had multiple athletes post NCAA qualifying times.
The New Year’s trip will wrap up with a meet against Arizona on Jan. 8 at 4 p.m. at the Hillenbrand Aquatic Center.
The Mountaineers will then return to BIG EAST action on Jan. 10 at 11:00 a.m. when they travel to rival Pitt.
