Women's Basketball: WVU Takes on Mercyhurst

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University’s women’s basketball team (5-1) returns to the WVU Coliseum for the first of a three-game home stand when it takes on Mercyhurst (1-1) Wednesday, Dec. 3, at 7 p.m.
The two schools will be meeting for the first time, marking the third-straight game the Mountaineers faced a first-time opponent.
West Virginia is coming off a 2-0 weekend where it won the Dead River Company Classic in Orono, Maine. The Mountaineers defeated New Jersey Tech 76-42 and Brown 66-49 to take the title. Senior guard Takisha Granberry, who has recorded three-straight double-doubles, was named the Most Outstanding Player in the tournament after averaging 20.5 points, and10.5 rebounds while making nine 3-pointers. Sophomore guard Liz Repella also garnered All-Tournament Team accolades.
The Lakers have not played since Nov. 24, falling to No. 1 ranked (Division II) Northern Kentucky 78-38.
WVU enters the contest 39-2 all-time at home in non-conference play under the direction of Coach Mike Carey and the Mountaineers are 76-20 all-time in the WVU Coliseum under the eighth year mentor.
