Volleyball: Mountaineers Set to Close Home Season

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University volleyball team (7-17, 0-10 BIG EAST) is set to close out its home season with a 7 p.m. match against Cincinnati on Friday, Nov. 7, and a 2 p.m. match against Louisville on Sunday, Nov. 9.
The Mountaineers continue to look for their first BIG EAST win of the season after defeating St. Francis, Pa., (3-0), but falling to Rutgers (1-3) this past weekend. Junior outside hitter Abby Raines led the team with 19 kills and 23 digs, including10 kills eight digs in the win over the Red Flash.
Sophomore libero Bonnie West leads the team in both digs (373) and service aces (31) this season. She also ranks fifth in the conference in digs and 10th in service aces.
The Bearcats (22-5, 9-2 BIG EAST) are No. 2 in the conference after posting a 12-game winning streak with wins over USF and Georgetown this past weekend. Outside hitter Missy Harpenau earned BIG EAST Freshman of the Week Honors for her efforts after posting a double-double, with 13 kills and 15 digs in the win over USF.
The Cardinals (12-10, 8-3 BIG EAST) remain No. 3 in the conference after sweeping both Georgetown and USF in their last weekend of play. Senior Jana Matiasovska led the team with 16 kills and three service aces in the 3-2 victory over the Bulls. The Cardinals are ranked fifth in the nation in blocks, only behind Penn State, Utah and Colorado State.
