MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University women’s soccer team has earned a NSCAA Team Academic Award for its work in the classroom by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
WVU is one of 259 women’s soccer teams in all divisions to post a team grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher for the 2007-08 academic year. The Mountaineers posted a team GPA of 3.44 last year and have won a NSCAA Team Academic Award seven straight years.
“I’m very proud of the effort our ladies give in the classroom,” said Head Coach Nikki Izzo-Brown. “Being successful on and off the field has always been a staple of this program and continuing this streak of honors is very encouraging.”
The Mountaineers closed out the 2008 season with a 14-3-6 record, tying the school record for fewest losses in a season. Six West Virginia players earned all-conference honors as WVU won its fourth BIG EAST American Division title. Izzo-Brown guided her team to a ninth consecutive NCAA Championship appearance, an active streak good for ninth-best in the country.
