MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University volleyball team is set to close out its 2008 season with a 7 p.m. match against Marquette on Friday, Nov. 14, and a 2 p.m. match against Syracuse on Sunday, Nov. 16.
The Mountaineers are 7-19, 0-12 BIG EAST, after falling to Cincinnati (0-3) and Louisville (0-3) this past weekend. Freshman setter Kari Post led the team with 35 assists and 17 digs, including 11 assists and 11 digs in the match against the Bearcats.
Marquette is now 10-15, 4-8 BIG EAST, after splitting two matches over the weekend. The Golden Eagles defeated Villanova in five sets and then fell to Seton Hall, also in five. Junior setter Caryn Mastandrea was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for her efforts. In the match against Seton Hall, Mastandrea posted her first-ever triple double with 11 kills, 48 assists and 16 digs.
The Mountaineers currently own a 27-14 series record over the Golden Eagles after a thrilling 3-2 match last season at the WVU Coliseum.
The Orange fell to 15-14, 6-6 BIG EAST, after dropping two matches to Seton Hall and Villanova over the weekend. Senior setter April Quigley led the team with 44 total assists, while junior Sarah Morton recorded 11 kills in the match against Seton Hall.
The Mountaineers look to avenge their 3-0 loss to the Orange last season. Despite the loss, WVU still leads the series record 13-9.
