Women's Basketball: Season Opener Friday

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University women’s basketball team opens its 36th season of competition with the first of a four-game, season-opening home stand against North Carolina Central, Friday, Nov. 14, at 7 p.m. at the WVU Coliseum.
It is the first-ever meeting between the two squads.
West Virginia returns one starter and three letterwinners from last year’s 25-8 NCAA second round team that also finished 12-4 in the BIG EAST Conference. The contest with the Eagles will mark the first of 16 home games this year for the Mountaineers at the Coliseum. WVU is 73-19 all-time at home under Mike Carey, including a 36-1 mark against non-conference opponents. WVU has also won nine straight home openers.
Located in Durham, N.C., North Carolina Central returns four starters and eight letterwinners from last year’s 6-20 team. NCCU is an independent school undergoing Division I reclassification. The Eagles are coached by Joli Robinson who has amassed a 187-155 record in 12 seasons at NCCU.
