MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Freshman outside hitter Kylie Armbruster led the Mountaineers with her fifth double-double of the season as they defeated Robert Morris this evening at the WVU Coliseum.
Armbruster posted 13 kills and 10 digs, as the Mountaineers (6-10, 0-4) defeated the Colonials (12-7, 1-0) in a 3-2 (25-7, 11-25, 25-16, 23-25, 15-11) match.
The Mountaineers dominated in set one with 14 kills to the Colonials four. Then in the second set, WVU fell behind as they posted five reception errors.
Determined to stay up, WVU came back in set three only trailing after the first play on a kill from Robert Morris’ Cassie Lee. Freshman outside hitter Michelle Kopecky then answered with a kill of her own to tie the game at 1-1. Kopecky went on to lead the Mountaineers to victory with four kills.
In the fourth set, the Mountaineers found themselves down 21-24. Despite their best efforts, a kill by RMU’s Hanna Veith sent the match into five sets.
Kopecky once again started things off in the fifth set with a kill to put the Mountaineers up 1-0. WVU went on to post 11 total kills with a team hitting percentage of .346 to win the match.
Senior middle blocker Tammy Wolf and Kopecky both posted solid matches with 12 kills a piece, while senior middle blocker Lisa Hough added 10.
