Volleyball: Mountaineers Fall in Five

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University volleyball team was defeated by BIG EAST opponent USF this afternoon at the WVU Coliseum.
The Bulls (11-7, 2-2) defeated the Mountaineers (5-10, 0-4) in a close 3-2 (18-25, 25-20, 25-19, 26-28, 15-11) match.
The Mountaineers started the day off strong with a victory in the first set, fueled by five total team blocks. Then after falling in the second and third sets, the Mountaineers showed their determination, fighting back to a 28-26 victory to send the match into five sets. Freshman Kylie Armbruster played her best set of the match, recording five kills, including one for the win.
Despite their efforts, the Mountaineers fell in the fifth set as USF posted nine kills with a .471 hitting percentage.
Leading the Mountaineers was Armbruster who posted 15 kills and eight digs. Freshman outside hitter Michelle Kopecky followed with 13 kills and a .417 hitting percentage, while senior middle blocker Tammy Wolf recorded 11.
Sophomore libero Bonnie West led the Mountaineers in digs with 18 and service aces with three, as freshman setter Kari Post added a career-high 47 assists.
The Mountaineers return to home action on Wednesday, Oct. 8, as they host Robert Morris in a 7 p.m. match.
