MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will travel to Blacksburg, Va., on Saturday, Oct. 25, to take on Virginia Tech and North Carolina State in double dual meets.
“We’re excited about heading down and reigniting a rivalry from the past with Virginia Tech and the opportunity to swim N.C. State,” Head Coach Vic Riggs says. “It’s an extra special weekend for us and we think we match up very well on both sides.”
West Virginia (men 2-1, women 2-2) is coming off a loss to Penn State in which the men fell 145-93 and women fell 145-84. There was success however as three pool records were set. Junior Kayla Andrews set her records in the 50 free (23.06) and the 100 free (50.22).
Virginia Tech will be opening its season. The Hokie men went 12-3 last season, finishing fourth in the ACC Championships while the women went 14-2 and finished third.
N.C. State (men 1-0, women 2-0) opened its season on Oct. 11, when the men hosted UMBC and the women hosted UMBC and Miami. The men defeated the Retrievers 157-85, while the women won 187-50 and defeated Miami (144-99).
“We are looking forward to improving our swims from last Wednesday,” Riggs says. “We’re looking forward for opportunities to race well.”
The meet will begin at 1 p.m. at War Memorial Pool.
