Volleyball: Mountaineers Return to Home Action

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University volleyball team returns to home action this weekend with a 7 p.m. match against St. John’s on Friday, Oct. 24, and a 2 p.m. match against Connecticut on Sunday, Oct. 26.
The Mountaineers (6-14, 0-7 BIG EAST) are looking for their first conference win of the season after falling to Pitt (1-3) and Duquesne (2-3) last weekend. Freshman Kylie Armbruster led the team with 18 kills and 29 digs, while freshman Kari Post recorded 70 assists and 21 digs.
The Red Storm (14-7, 5-1 BIG EAST) are in second place in the conference after defeating Connecticut in a 3-2 match last weekend. Senior Wioleta Leszczynska was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll for her efforts as she posted 55 assists, seven digs and two blocks in the win. Leszczynska currently leads the conference with 11.62 assists per set.
The Huskies (14-7, 3-3 BIG EAST) went 1-1 last weekend after defeating Sacred Heart (3-0) then falling to St. John’s. Junior Chauntay Mickens earned a spot on the BIG EAST Honor Roll after posting 34 kills over the weekend including 20 against the Red Storm.
On Friday, the first 30 fans will receive free t-shirts, while the first 70 will receive t-shirts on Sunday. All Mountaineer Maniacs who attend Sunday’s match will be able to earn attendance points.
