Tennis: Mountaineers Continue Fall Play

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University tennis team will continue fall play with a trip to the Queen City Invitational in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Oct. 3-5.
The Mountaineers had a good showing last weekend at the Bronco Invitational as junior Gabriela Blaskovicova went 3-1 and took the title in the consolation round of the Flight ‘C’ draw over Kay Kay Magi from Purdue, in a 7-6, 7-5 match.
Also having success in singles play were juniors Olga Elkin and Stephanie LaFortune. Elkin saved three match points before taking a 2-6, 6-4, 12-10 win over Gilly Hush of Marquette. LaFortune defeated Jan Woo of Eastern Michigan, 7-5, 6-2.
In the doubles competition, Elkin along with freshman Veronica Cardenas posted key wins over Eastern Michigan (8-1) and Western Michigan (8-4), in the consolation round of competition.
The Mountaineers will close out the fall season on Oct. 17-19, at the ITA Regional Championships in Dartmouth, N.H.
