Volleyball: Mountaineers to Host BIG EAST Play

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University volleyball team will host BIG EAST opponents Georgetown at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 3, and USF at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 5, at the WVU Coliseum.
The Mountaineers are 5-8 overall and 0-2 in the BIG EAST after falling to Seton Hall and Villanova last weekend in league play.
Freshman outside hitter Kylie Armbruster once again led the Mountaineers over the weekend with 16 kills and 16 digs. Freshman setter Kari Post also had a good showing with 48 total assists, while sophomore Bonnie West posted 23 digs.
The Hoyas are 8-7, 1-1 this season, after having a five-match win streak snapped at Notre Dame last weekend. Junior Jessica Hardy led Georgetown with nine kills, while senior Caitlin Boland posted 23 assists. Last season the Mountaineers swept the Hoyas in a 3-0 match at McDonough Gym, in Washington, D.C.
The Bulls are 10-6, 1-1 on the season, after defeating DePaul last weekend. Junior All-American Marcela Gurgel led the team with an outstanding 20 kills, 16 digs and four aces, while posting a .528 hitting percentage in the win. USF defeated the Mountaineers last season 3-1, in Tampa, Fla.
