MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Three West Virginia University football players earned BIG EAST weekly awards for their efforts in WVU’s 17-6 victory over Syracuse on Saturday, Oct. 11, at Mountaineer Field.
Tailback Noel Devine was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week after rushing for a career-high 188 yards on 18 carries. His 92-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter allowed the Mountaineers to break away from the Orange and remain unbeaten (2-0) in BIG EAST play. It was Devine’s third 100-yard rushing performance of the season.
Kicker/punter Pat McAfee and bandit safety Quinton Andrews were named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. McAfee averaged 47.0 yards on four punts, and scored four points, including a 33-yard field goal, to move into a tie for fourth place on the BIG EAST career scoring record (334).
Andrews delivered a game-high nine tackles with two pass breakups against the Orange. He is second on the team with 45 tackles and has recorded three breakups on the season.
The Mountaineers return to action on Thursday, Oct. 23, for a nationally-televised home contest against Auburn at 7:30 p.m.
