Women's Basketball: WVU No. 16 in AP Poll

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s basketball team (11-2) moved up to No. 16, garnering 480 points, in the Associated Press Top 25 poll, released today.
Ranked No. 17 last week, with 441 points, WVU opened BIG EAST play with a 79-73 victory at USF this past Saturday in Tampa, Fla.
Four other BIG EAST teams are ranked in the AP poll: No. 1 Connecticut, No. 5 Rutgers, No. 14 Notre Dame and No. 24 DePaul.
Junior Sparkle Davis was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll for her efforts in helping West Virginia defeat the Bulls. She came off the bench to net a career-best 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting including four 3-pointers with five assists and four rebounds in a career-high 33 minutes of action.
West Virginia returns to action Wednesday, Jan. 9, at 7:30 p.m. at No. 1/1 Connecticut at Gampel Pavilion in Storrs, Conn. The contest will be broadcast live on West Virginia Public Broadcasting and will be aired on MSN radio with Travis Jones on the call.
