Women's Basketball: WVU Takes on Irish

GAME NOTES
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University’s nationally ranked women’s basketball team (11-3, 1-1) takes on Notre Dame (13-2, 1-0) Sunday, Jan. 13, at Noon in a key BIG EAST mathcup at the WVU Coliseum. The game will be broadcast live on ESPNU with Beth Mowins and Brooke Weisbrod on the call.
No. 14/14 Notre Dame leads the all-time series with the No. 16/16 Mountaineers by a 15-1 count. WVU’s lone victory in the series came at home in the 2004 season, WVU’s first NCAA tournament year under coach Mike Carey. WVU fell at Notre Dame last year 77-67 last year in South Bend, Ind.
This contest will also mark the first-time that both programs will face off while being nationally ranked.
West Virginia is coming off a disappointing 84-48 loss to No. 1/1 Connecticut this past Wednesday while the Irish won at Louisville, 82-74, January 8.
Senior Olayinka Sanni leads the Mountaineers in points and rebounds with 17.2 and 6.7 per game, respectively. Senior guard Charel Allen paces the Irish with a 14.6 points-per-game average while fellow guard Lindsay Schrader averages a team-best 5.8 rebounds per game.
The contest will also be aired on many MSN radio affiliates with Travis Jones and Jay Jacobs on the call and will be the first part of a double-header with the WVU men taking on Syracuse at 2:30 p.m.
