Rifle: WVU Opens Spring Schedule Saturday

MORGANTOWN, W.Va.– The West Virginia University rifle team will take on Nebraska Saturday, Jan. 12, at the Mountaineer Rifle Range at 8 a.m. to open up the spring portion of the 2007-08 season.
The Mountaineers are currently 3-2 on the season under second year Head Coach Jon Hammond. The Mountaineers won their first three matches against NC State, Ohio State and Ole Miss, before falling to Army and Kentucky. The Cornhuskers are 1-2 on the season, and took second place in a triangular match against Army and NC State.
The fall was highlighted by freshman Brandi Eskew who shot a total of 1167 points in smallbore and air rifle on Nov. 10, against Kentucky which tied the WVU school record set on Oct. 23, 2004.
WVU also shot a total of 2317 in smallbore and 2301 in air rifle against NC State on Oct. 6, to break the previous school record of 2304 in smallbore, which was set at the GARC Championships, Feb. 27, 2005. After the Nebraska match, WVU will travel Palmyra, Pa., to shoot at the Palmyra Invitational on Sunday, Jan. 13.
