MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University cross country team will compete at the Paul Short Invitational in Bethlehem, Pa., on Friday, Sept. 28. The race will be hosted by Lehigh and gets underway at 1:40 p.m.
“We are anxiously waiting to see this team at full strength,” Head Coach Sean Cleary says. “Bringing Keri (Bland), Maria (Dalzot) and Marie-Louise (Asselin) back into the mix should make us a stronger group.”
The race will have 47 teams competing including nationally ranked teams such as Princeton, Tennessee, Texas Tech and Wisconsin. Syracuse, Villanova and Pitt will be among a few of the BIG EAST teams participating as well.
The Mountaineers’ top three runners Asselin, Bland and Dalzot will all be competing for the first time this season. Sophomore Clara Grandt and junior Alison Spiker should also be in Cleary’s top seven along with freshmen Kaylyn Christopher and Kate Harrison.
“This is probably the most competitive and biggest race anyone on this team has ever run in,” Cleary says.
