Gymnastics: WVU Releases 2008 Slate

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University gymnastics Coach Linda Burdette today announced the team’s 2008 schedule.
WVU will have four regular season meets at the Coliseum before hosting the 2007 East Atlantic Gymnastics League Championships on March 29. The Mountaineers will also have the annual Gold & Blue intrasquad meet on Dec. 2, at Cary Gym.
“Our team is excited about our great schedule this year,” Burdette says. “We will get the chance to compete against some of the best gymnastics programs around the country at home and on the road. Also, we are fortunate to be able host the conference championship this year and know it will be a great event as it has been in the past.”
West Virginia will travel to Cancun, Mexico, to compete in the 2008 Cancun Classic to open the season. The competition will include some of the nation’s top teams such as Oklahoma, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, LSU and Denver.
The Mountaineers will then head to Big Ten power Michigan on Jan. 11, before heading to EAGL foe Maryland on Jan. 18. Other big road trips include: at Penn State on Feb. 2, at LSU on Feb. 8, and rival Pitt on March 1.
The 2008 home slate includes hosting North Carolina on Feb. 15, Minnesota on March 15, and welcoming Ohio State for senior night on March 22.
Burdette also revealed that Monday evening practices this fall are open to the public at 5 p.m.
