Volleyball: Mountaineers fall to Notre Dame

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University volleyball team fell to BIG EAST opponent Notre Dame (5-7) this afternoon at the WVU Coliseum.
The Mountaineers fought hard but were defeated by the Fighting Irish 3-1 (19-30, 30-23, 27-30, 27-30) in four games.
Senior outside hitter Abby Tevis led the Mountaineers as she posted 18 kills and a season high 21 digs in her ninth double-double of the year. Also stepping up for the Mountaineers was senior setter Kailee Goold who posted a double-double with 43 assist and 16 digs.
The Mountaineers are now 9-5 the season after going 1-1 in the opening weekend of BIG EAST play.
Freshmen Bonnie West and Abby Norman both had excellent showings in their BIG EAST debut as West posted 47 total digs and averaged 5.22 per game. Norman came in second on the team in kills with 24.
Next weekend the Mountaineers take BIG EAST play on the road, as they travel to take on Connecticut on Saturday, Sept. 29, and St. John’s on Sunday, Sept. 30. Both games are set for 2 p.m.
