Game captains for West Virginia were Markell Harrison, Bobby Hathaway, Marc Magro and Ryan Mundy. Coach Rich Rodriguez selects game captains each week. Team captains will be elected at the end of the season.
Wide receiver Brandon Hogan was WVU’s lone first time starter today. Hogan makes the 36th Mountaineer player to have at least one career start. Tops in that list is senior defensive lineman Keilein Dykes, who made his 35th career start this afternoon.
Mortty Ivy’s interception in the first quarter was the first of his career.
Steve Slaton’s one-yard rushing touchdown in the first quarter was the 42nd rushing touchdown of his career, tying the school record held by Ira Errett Rodgers and Avon Cobourne.
Slaton now has 42 rushing touchdowns in his last 24 games.
Slaton moved into eighth place on WVU’s list of touchdowns responsible for with 44, tying him with Chad Johnson (1993-96). Rasheed Marshall (2001-04) holds the school record with 69.
Darius Reynaud’s 64-yard run off a reverse in the first quarter was the longest rush of his career. His previous best was a 57-yard run last year. The play marked the second-longest rush of the season.
Patrick White’s 13-yard touchdown run in the second quarter marked the 30th of his career. White has scored at least one rushing touchdown in each of the last five contests dating back to the Gator Bowl victory over Georgia Tech. He added a four-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. It marks his 10th career multiple rushing touchdown game and second of the season.
Reynaud had a 12-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter. Reynaud added a 14-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter, the second multiple receiving touchdown game of his career (Marshall, 2007). It was his fourth touchdown reception of the season and 11th of his career.
White had two passing touchdowns to make six on the season and 27 for his career. White has thrown a touchdown pass in seven of his last eight games and eight out of his last 10 contests.
White is now tied for 10th in career touchdown passes at WVU with 27. He is tied with Darren Studstill (1990-93). Marc Bulger is WVU’s all-time leader with 59 career touchdown passes.
West Virginia’s 27-0 lead at halftime marked the first time the Mountaineers have held a team scoreless in the first game since a 21-0 lead at Cincinnati on Nov. 9, 2005, a span of 20 games.
Slaton went over 100 yards rushing for the 19th time in his career, including all four games this season. Avon Cobourne has the most 100-yard rushing games with 28. He has reached 100 yards rushing at home in all but one game (10 times).
Slaton had a 41-yard run in the third quarter, the 15th longest run of his career.
Ed Collington’s four-yard touchdown rush was the first of his career.
West Virginia has scored 40 or more points in 11 of its last 12 home games.
West Virginia has gone over 300 yards of rushing in all four games this season. Under Rodriguez, WVU is 26-2 when reaching the 300-yard rushing mark.
West Virginia improved to 17-2 all-time in series history with East Carolina. The Mountaineers have defeated the Pirates seven-straight times. WVU is 12-0 in games against East Carolina in games played in Morgantown. Rich Rodriguez is 6-0 all-time against East Carolina.
WVU is 26-3 over the last 29 games. WVU has won 39 of its last 45 regular season games and 41of its last 49 overall games.
Dating back to 2005, WVU has 91 rushing touchdowns in its last 23 games.
WVU is 19-2 with Patrick White as a starting quarterback and is 22-2 with Steve Slaton as a starting tailback. West Virginia is 19-2 with the duo of Slaton and White in the starting lineup.
West Virginia is 25-12 in non-conference games under Rich Rodriguez. WVU has an 11-game non-conference winning streak. WVU is 15-5 in non-conference home games under Rodriguez.
West Virginia is 47-1 since 2000 when scoring 30 points or more in a contest. Dating back to 1980, the Mountaineers hold a 129-7-1 record when scoring 30 or more points in a game.
West Virginia went over 500 yards of total offense against East Carolina, marking the 17th time WVU has done so under Rodriguez. The Mountaineers are 16-1 in those contests. Four of those marks have come against East Carolina.
