Cross Country: WVU Takes Top Spot in Season Opener

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University cross country team took first in the 2007 WVU Invitational on Saturday at the WVU Agronomy Farm.
WVU had 19 points and was followed by West Virginia Wesleyan, which had 59 points.
WVU freshmen Kaylyn Christopher and Kate Harrison took first and second place, respectively, with a time of 15:29. Junior Alison Spiker crossed the finish line third in 15:57. Other top WVU finishers included Karly Hamric in fifth (16:12), Nicole Lemal in eighth (16:38), Nicole Dorinzi in ninth (16:40), Kerry Davis in 11th (16:54).
“I’m very pleased with how some of our younger girls ran today,” head coach Sean Cleary said. “We need them to build on this performance as we head into the bulk of the season.”
Cleary elected to not run his top three athletes, Marie-Louise Asselin, Keri Bland and Clara Grandt as they continue to train for Lock Haven Invitational on Sept. 15.
