MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia men’s soccer team has been picked 16th in the Soccertimes.com Top 25 College Coaches’ Preseason Poll released on Aug. 28.
Five of WVU opponents have been ranked in the preseason poll in No. 3 Duke, No. 9 Maryland, No. 10 Notre Dame, No. 13 St. John’s and No. 15 Connecticut. UC Santa Barbara topped the poll followed by UCLA, Duke, Wake Forest and Virginia rounding out the top five.
The Mountaineers closed the 2006 season ranked 14th in the poll. The BIG EAST Blue Division regular season champions finished the season 15-3-3, making a run in the NCAA tournament.
WVU will open the 2007 regular season on Aug. 31 against Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio where it will participate in the Bert and Iris Wolstein Soccer Classic. Game time is set for 5 p.m.
