MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University gymnast Janáe Cox has been named to the 2007 Academic All-America team as selected by ESPN The Magazine and CoSIDA.
Cox, who held a 3.84 grade point average in elementary education, was named to the third team in the women’s at-large division. Cox was a four-time honoree on the EAGL all-academic team and a three-time NACGC Scholastic All-American. She will graduate next May with a master’s degree in elementary education with a social studies specialization.
Cox finished her career as a three-time NCAA qualifier and became an All-American in the floor exercise at the 2007 NCAA championships. The Otisco, Ind., native became the first gymnast in WVU history to cross the 2,000 point plateau and holds the school record with 37 all-around scores of 39.0 or better. She was also named the 2007 EAGL Gymnast of the Year and EAGL Most Outstanding Senior Gymnast this past season.
