Baseball: WVU Welcomes Maryland-Eastern Shore

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University baseball team will welcome Maryland-Eastern Shore for a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 10, at Hawley Field. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
WVU (18-10, 4-5) enters tomorrow’s games after going 1-2 in a three-game series with South Florida April 5-7. After dropping games one and two to the Bulls, the Mountaineers rallied with a stunning 16-5 victory in game three. Second baseman Jason Pape went 2-for-3 while left fielder Justin Jenkins was 3-for-5. Left-handed pitcher Kenny Durst was credited with the win as he allowed only five runs on ten hits in his first complete game of the 2007 season.
Jenkins leads the Mountaineers on the season with a .444 average, 17 doubles and 32 RBI. Left-handed pitcher Matt Yurish is sporting a 3.12 ERA which he earned in 40.1 innings of work. Durst has struck out a team-high 37 batters.
Maryland-Eastern Shore (7-24) comes to Morgantown after splitting a doubleheader with Norfolk State on Sunday, April 8. Junior Joel Gonzalez leads the Hawks with a .448 average on the season. Gonzalez has hit eight doubles and registered 25 RBIs. Right-handed pitcher Dustin Longchamps boasts a 3.44 ERA with 69 strikeouts over 70.2 innings on the mound.
WVU leads the all-time series with UMES 5-0.
