Track: Czaikowski Takes Third in Hurdles at Relays

AUSTIN, TEXAS – West Virginia University’s track and field team ended its run at the 80th Annual Texas Relays with four top 10 finishes, two BIG EAST qualifiers and one ECAC qualifier on Saturday, April 7, at the Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Senior Jessica Czaikowski had the Mountaineers’ best performance of the day, finishing third in the 100 meter hurdles with both a conference and regional qualifying time of 13.53.
Freshman Keri Bland was the other BIG EAST qualifier for WVU, taking sixth in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:31.97. Junior Alison Spiker also competed in the event, placing 10th with a time of 4:40.98.
The distance medley relay team also found success today, finishing fifth with a time of 11:53.13. Senior Halimah Bashir, sophomores Karly Hamric and Clara Grandt, and freshman Marie Louise Asselin combined for the time.
All told, the Mountaineers had 15 top 10 finishes, 13 BIG EAST qualifiers, two ECAC qualifiers, one NCAA automatic bid and one Olympic Trials ‘B’ standard score at the Relays.
WVU will next compete at both the Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville, Tenn., and the Robert Morris Open in Moon, Pa. Both meets are the weekend of April 13-14.
