COLLEGE PARK, Md. – A total of 96 student-athletes from the eight East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) schools were named to the 2007 EAGL All-Academic team, the conference announced this week.
The 96 honorees is the highest total in the 12-year history of the EAGL, just ahead of the 95 EAGL All-Academic team members in 2005.
Maryland placed 15 members on the team, which is the highest total of student-athletes from one school. Rutgers and West Virginia tie for having the second highest total of honorees as they both placed 14 gymnasts on the team.
WVU’s gymnasts named included seniors Aimee Brown and Janáe Cox, who are both four-time EAGL All-Academic selections. Senior Amie Bouchier and juniors Jaime Gold, Rachel Hardin, Margaret Ann Moore and Kara Weaver were all named for the third time in their careers.
Seniors Tynisha Dennis and Cheryl Goldenfield were also selected along with sophomore Heather Izer and freshmen Shelly Purkat, Kiersten Spoerke, Elizabeth White and Ashley Wilson.
In order to be named to the EAGL All-Academic team, student-athletes must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher in the two previous semesters. Freshmen are also eligible, if they earned a GPA of 3.0 or higher in the fall semester.
