Ten teams qualify for the conference tournament, which will take place on campus sites during first round and quarterfinal play. WVU will play host to semifinal games on Friday, November 9 and the championship game will follow on Sunday, November 11. The winner of the championship game will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The weekend will begin with an awards banquet on Thursday, November 8.
“We are very excited to host another conference championship here at West Virginia University,” says director of athletics Ed Pastilong. “Coach Izzo-Brown, her staff, and student-athletes are very deserving of this opportunity to play at home in front of our great fans.”
“The commitment West Virginia University and its athletic department have made to its soccer program through its facilities is something that speaks volumes about where they want to go,” says Jim Siedliski, BIG EAST Associate Commissioner for Olympic Sports. “We are pleased to have such a fine facility in our conference, and to be able to utilize it for our women’s soccer championship this fall. The BIG EAST has a storied history of quality women’s soccer, and the opportunity to showcase the league’s talents in Morgantown will be awesome.”
Completed in August of 2004, renovations to the Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium (formerly known as Mountaineer Soccer Complex) have elevated West Virginia University's soccer facility into one of the very best in the nation.
The stadium, named in honor of a generous gift on behalf of Mr. Dlesk, is a two-level, 1,600-seat stadium with grandstand bleachers and ADA accessible seating. The complex also features a five-booth press box, which along with the seating in the upper walkway, can be reached via elevator. Located underneath the stadium is an onsite locker room to house the Mountaineers as well as concession and rest room facilities.
West Virginia returns nine starters from the 2006 team, including All-America forward Deana Everrett. The Mountaineers finished last season with a 14-4-3 record and competed in their seventh straight NCAA Tournament.
