MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Quarterback Patrick White was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2007 West Virginia University football team at this afternoon’s awards banquet.

White finished the regular season with 1,185 yards rushing and 1,548 yards passing. He rushed for 14 touchdowns and passed for 12 to total 26 TDs on the season.
Other award winners for the No. 9-ranked Mountaineers were: IRA ERRETT RODGERS AWARD: Owen Schmitt and Marc Magro; JOHN RUSSELL AWARD: Keilen Dykes and Ryan Stanchek; GRIDIRON GLADIATOR: Michael Villagrana, Bobby Hathaway, Vaughn Rivers and Johnny Dingle.
IDEAL MOUNTAINEER MAN: Reed Williams, Dorrell Jalloh, Greg Isdaner and Larry Williams; WHITEY GWYNNE AWARD: Adam Bednarik and Ridwan Malik; DANNY VAN ETTEN AWARD: Noel Devine.
SCOUT TEAMS PLAYER OF THE YEAR (offense): Michael Poitier and John Hafferty; SCOUT TEAMS PLAYER OF THE YEAR (defense) Jim Lewis and Julian Miller; SCOUT TEAMS PLAYER OF THE YEAR (special teams): Tom Contraguerro.
SCOTT SHIRLEY AWARD: Pat McAfee; COACHES CONTRIBUTION AWARD: Steve Slaton, Darius Reynaud, Antonio Lewis, Mortty Ivy, Eric Wicks, Ryan Mundy, Adam Hughes, Mike Dent and Tito Gonzales; TEAMMATE AWARD: Cody Nutter; CAPTAINS AWARD: Owen Schmitt, Keilen Dykes, Marc Magro and Vaughn Rivers.
West Virginia finished with a 10-2 record and won the BIG EAST championship for the fourth time in five years. The Mountaineers will play No. 3 Oklahoma (11-2) in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 2, 2008, in Glendale, Ariz.
