Women's Basketball: WVU No. 13 in AP Poll

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s basketball team (7-1) rose two spots to No. 13, garnering 596 votes, in the Associated Press Top 25 poll, released today.
Ranked No. 15 last week, with 494 votes, WVU defeated St. Bonaventure, 64-37, and Columbia, 74-41, this past weekend at the FAU Holiday Classic in Boca Raton, Fla.
Four other BIG EAST teams are ranked in the AP poll: No. 2 Connecticut, No. 4 Rutgers, No. 15 DePaul and No. 16 Notre Dame.
Seniors LaQuita Owens and Chakhia Cole were named to the FAU Holiday Classic all-tournament team for theirs efforts in helping the Mountaineers go 2-0. Owens averaged 16.5 points in the two games while shooting 70.0% (14-20) from the field with five 3-pointers. Cole averaged 11.5 points and 7.5 rebounds over the two-game tournament
West Virginia returns to action Friday, Dec. 7, at 7 p.m. at Duquesne at the A.J. Palumbo Center in Pittsburgh, Pa.
