MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University midfielder Andy Wright was named a Soccer America MVP today. Wright was one of 22 players named to the College Men's MVP teams, its version of an All-America team.
Wright recently completed one of the finest careers by a midfielder in school history. The senior netted six goals and six assists for 18 points in 2007, taking home BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year honors. The All-America honor is the third for Wright, also named a second team All-American by CollegeSoccerNews.com and a third team All-American by the NSCAA.
“I am very happy for Andy and certainly wish him nothing but the best as he prepares for his future as a professional,” said Head Coach Marlon LeBlanc.
Wright finished his career with 18 goals, 17 assists, and 53 points in 83 matches played for WVU. The two-time all-BIG EAST player was also an NSCAA all-Northeast region honoree as a senior.
The Liverpool, England, native will continue his playing career in the professional ranks and has been invited to the MLS combine at Lockhart Stadium in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., on Jan. 11-15, 2008.
Wright is the third men’s soccer All-American in the last two seasons, joining Nick Noble (goalkeeper) and Jarrod Smith (forward) from a year ago.
