MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University forward Ashley Banks, defender Greer Barnes and midfielder Amanda Cicchini were named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America’s Mid-Atlantic Region first team, the association announced.
Midfielder Carolyn Blank and forward Deana Everrett were named second team Mid-Atlantic all-region. The Mountaineers’ five all-region picks are the most in a single season for West Virginia.
“I’m very happy for these ladies to be recognized for their hard work,” said Head Coach Nikki Izzo-Brown. “Each of them played integral roles in the success of our team this season.”
The all-region honor is the second for Cicchini and Everrett, both second team picks in 2006.
Banks, Barnes and Cicchini become the first WVU all-region first team selections since All-American Laura Kane in 2004. The trio is now eligible for All-America consideration with first team selections in the other five regions.
Earlier this month, Izzo-Brown was named the NSCAA’s Coach of the Year for the Mid-Atlantic Region after guiding the Mountaineers to their first NCAA Elite Eight appearance in school history. WVU put together a record of 18-5-2 with its 18 wins tying the school record for victories in a season.
