Men's Soccer: WVU To Play Villanova Wednesday

MORGANTOWN, W.Va.-The West Virginia University men’s soccer team (12-5-1, 7-3-1) plays host to Villanova (10-8-1, 5-5-1) in the first round of the BIG EAST tournament on Wednesday, Nov. 7. Game time is set for 7 p.m., at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
The meeting between WVU and Villanova is the 19th in the all-time series. The Mountaineers own the series advantage with an 11-8 record which dates back to 1972. The two squads last met in 2005 when the Mountaineers fell 2-1 at Villanova. The two teams have not yet played each other in the postseason.
The winner of Wednesday night’s match will advance to the quarterfinals to face No. 2-seed Louisville. Last season, the Mountaineers advanced to the BIG EAST championship game, but fell to St. John’s 1-0. This year’s tournament marks the Mountaineers’ sixth appearance in the BIG EAST tournament since joining the conference in 1995.
